Summary

Amla, also known as "Indian Gooseberry", has been used as a hair and skin treatment in traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. Ayurveda is a natural holistic approach to physical and mental health.

Amla powder is known as a superfood for hair and skin. Amla is widely used to promote healthy hair growth, to give hair volume and shine, to delay hair going grey, to improve the condition of your scalp and reduce dandruff, and to improve the depth of colour of henna hair dyes.

Golden Greens Organic Amla powder comes in 200g packets, foil-lined and re-sealable to maintain freshness. Our amla powder is certified organic by the Soil Association, your guarantee of purity and quality.

How To Create Amla Paste for Hair Nutrition

Add a little water to 2 - 3 teaspoons of amla powder, stir to make a smooth thin paste. Then apply the paste to your hair roots and scalp and leave. Your hair and scalp will absorb the nutrients from the paste. After 30 - 45 minutes wash the paste away with running water (preferably cool or cold water).
Note: People do choose ingredients other than water to mix their amla into, including vegetable oils, plant oils such as coconut, eggs, milk or henna. However if you are not used to this we recommend you start with water.

How To Create an Amla Face Mask for Younger-Looking Skin

Amla is widely used as a face mask as follows. Form a wet paste (yoghurty consistency, not runny) by adding water to 2 teaspoons of amla powder. Mix in 2 teaspoons of freshly mashed avacado. Dampen your skin, then rub face mask mixture onto your skin in small circular motions, avoiding your eye area. Leave your face mask on for 20 - 30 minutes before washing it off with cool water. Follow with a good moisturiser.

Dietary Amla for Hair Health and as a Whole-Body Tonic

Add one or two teaspoons of amla powder to water, fruit juice or your favourite smoothie. In ayurvedic medicine amla will help prevent premature greying of your hair, plus it will promote hair growth and feed your hair and scalp to help prevent hair loss. Amla is also bursting with vitamin C and dietary fibre.

Amla Cautions

Some people do have an allergy to amla which can cause skin irritation or a rash, so if this is your first time using amla on your skin please do the traditional spot test. Rub a small amount of amla mixed with water onto a small pound-size portion of your skin, cover and leave for 24 hours. If there is any sign of skin irritation after 24 hours then do not use, otherwise you should be safe to proceed using your amla paste.

Amla powder should be used for adults only.

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should discuss use of amla with their doctor before proceeding.
